I made a promise to myself to read more this year. As a child and young adult, I loved to read. But if I'm honest with myself - as a thirty something adult, I have read less and less. I still ooh and ahh at new books and I definitely still purchase them but I do not actively read. Between work, adulting and social media - there's rarely space for it. I decided to start my year reading a memoir recommended to me by a friend. I know Julia Cameron as the guru who wrote one of the most life changing books - The Artist's Way and so was hoping her memoir would inspire me to write and give me that new year fire to keep going. I'm a quarter way through and it is nothing of what I expected. She recounts the days of her being a young writer and a raging alcoholic / drug addict. She ended up marrying Martin Scorsese (I know) and subsequently divorced him after she found out he was cheating on her with an actress on his set - Liza Minneli. I know - it's giving Jackie Collins and I am... loving it. I'm sure there will be the part where she gets her life together and starts writing from a place of peace and not pain - but for now, I'm here for the drama.
I also love when I see the full picture of people's lives. I reminder that no one's journey is linear and that we are all works in progress.
Are you setting any goals for themselves this year, reading wise? What's on your list? xo
