I just finished reading His Only Wife by Peace Adzo Medie, and although I didn't LOVE the ending, I thought it was a pretty brillaint read. It was so easy to get into, hilarious in places, and I love how the main character, Afi, developed as the story progressed.
I also think the first line of the novel deserves to win some sort of award: “Elikem married me in absentia; he did not come to our wedding.” - like damn, sis.
Has anyone read it? What did you think?

Yeah that was one of the best openers I’ve read because it pulls you in and you instantly what to no where the hell her husband was. Lol. I think the author did a fantastic job in telling this story and it was super easy to follow. While it was a fantastic read, I felt myself wanting her to go deeper, give me more insights into the characters as opposed to being on the outside the whole time. I guess Afi was an outsider and so to some degree, we as readers needed to be but I love feeling like part of a story and didn’t that feeling.
That being said - this book should be optioned asap as it would make a BRILLIANT limited series or film!
